The energy-efficient vehicle student team from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Semar UGM, is preparing to once again compete on the international stage at the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Pacific and the Middle East 2026, to be held at the Lusail International Circuit in Doha, Qatar, from Jan. 21 to 25, 2026.
The Shell Eco-Marathon is a prestigious competition that brings together energy-efficient vehicles designed to push the boundaries of existing technology.
The 2026 edition marks the beginning of a new chapter, reflecting the latest developments in STEM fields while offering a comprehensive competitive experience.

With renewed enthusiasm and more ambitious targets, Semar UGM remains strongly committed to delivering more advanced, energy-efficient vehicle innovations than in previous years.
This participation motivates team members to demonstrate their best capabilities while enhancing UGM’s and Indonesia’s reputations on the global stage.
“This year, we are returning to Qatar with greater spirit and ambition,” said Muhammad Ghani Prayatna, General Manager of Semar UGM, on Wednesday (Jan. 21).

In the previous competition, Semar UGM achieved several notable accomplishments, winning Second Place in the Electric Urban category and Third Place in the Electric Prototype category.
These achievements have further motivated the team to enhance the innovations showcased in this year’s competition.
For this year’s event, Semar UGM will present two flagship vehicles—first, Semar Urban Hydroz 1.2, which uses hydrogen fuel for the Urban Concept category. And the second one is Semar Proto 4.0, an electric vehicle designed for the Prototype category.
“Our team has prepared the vehicles as thoroughly as possible and worked with discipline and focus to improve performance. We are ready to enter the track and represent UGM and Indonesia on the global stage with our best performance,” Prayatna stated.

With a series of final preparations continuing to be refined, Semar UGM is targeting stronger performance improvements than last year. The team hopes to achieve the best possible results while further strengthening Indonesia’s position in global energy-efficient vehicle competitions.
