Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Rector, Professor Ova Emilia, inaugurated the new Supervisory Board and the Director of Medical and Nursing Services of the Academic Hospital (RSA) UGM on Friday (Mar. 13) at the Auditorium of the Kresna Building, 5th Floor, RSA UGM.
The eight newly appointed members of the RSA UGM Supervisory Board are Professor Wening Udasmoro, DEA., who serves as Chair, with members Professor Yodi Mahendradhata, Dr. Andreas Meliala, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Mangkubumi, Dato’ Sri Professor Tahir, M.B.A., Professor Sri Suning Kusumawardani, and dr. Joko Murdiyanto, M.P.H. Meanwhile, the position of Director of Medical and Nursing Services is now held by dr. Novi Zain Alfajri.
Professor Ova congratulated the newly inaugurated officials. According to her, the inauguration of the Supervisory Board and the appointment of the new Director mark a historic moment in the development of the Academic Hospital. She highlighted the crucial role of the Supervisory Board as a gatekeeper for management.
“The Supervisory Board plays a very crucial role as a gatekeeper for management, while also assisting in the internal development and supervision of the Academic Hospital,” she explained.

Professor Ova also highlighted RSA UGM’s role within the UGM ecosystem, particularly through the circular economy initiative introduced by the RSA President Director, Dr. Darwinto. She noted that the initiative could create opportunities for innovation and enable the hospital to provide specialized services through products developed by UGM.
“The procurement of food ingredients such as meat, fruit, and vegetables is sourced from PIAT UGM and then utilized directly by RSA. This creates opportunities for us to innovate,” she said.
To address future challenges, Professor Ova emphasized the importance of leadership transformation, noting that RSA still faces significant challenges amid the complexity of future environmental changes. She expressed hope that the hospital’s management will become more agile, innovative, and adaptive in responding to change.
“Transformational leadership is highly necessary. Leadership must always focus on positive, innovative, character-driven, and dignified change,” she explained.

Toward the end of her remarks, Professor Ova used a maritime analogy to describe the inauguration as a sign that the sails have been unfurled and the anchor has been cast. She described the synergy between the Supervisory Board and RSA management as essential.
“The success of RSA UGM requires the right anchor of control to guide leadership and management performance in achieving the hospital’s vision and mission, so that it does not drift with the waves and storms it may encounter,” she concluded.
