Universitas Gadjah Mada received the Best Account award at the 2026 Government Social Media (GSM) Awards on Tuesday (June 9) at the Garuda Spark Innovation Hub, fX Sudirman, 8th Floor, Jakarta.
In this category, UGM outperformed Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and Universitas Indonesia (UI), both of which were also among the Top 3 nominations. The competition for government-owned social media channels, organized by the Government Social Media Summit organization, was attended by 211 institutions. Winners were selected based on the collection and analysis of nine million social media data points from participating institutions.
Adieb Haryadi, Chair of the Board of the Government Social Media Summit, said the GSM Awards are an annual recognition program honoring excellence in social media management among government institutions. This year, the GSM Awards presented 16 awards across four categories within the clusters of ministries, government agencies, provincial governments, and state universities.
“We selected 211 institutions as participants and collected approximately nine million social media data points, which were analyzed to determine the winners,” said Haryadi.

Andi Muslim, representing Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, welcomed the GSM Awards as a platform to recognize public relations professionals who consistently deliver useful and inspiring information through their institutions’ social media channels.
“They are producers of healthy and inspiring communication and information,” he said.
According to him, the awards will further motivate social media managers to improve their performance and inspire other institutions to strengthen their communication efforts.

As is known, the awards ceremony was held alongside the Government Social Media Summit (GSMS), an annual gathering of public relations and communications practitioners, particularly those responsible for managing government social media channels. The event aims to strengthen public communication performance across ministries, government agencies, and regional governments through social media.
UGM University Secretary, Dr. Andi Sandi, once again expressed his gratitude to UGM for receiving recognition from the GSMS. According to him, the award reflects appreciation for UGM’s success in using social media creatively and innovatively to generate positive impacts on society.
“This award further motivates the UGM Public Relations team to continue delivering information more effectively through our existing social media channels,” said Dr. Sandi.
UGM currently manages several official social media accounts, including Instagram @ugm.yogyakarta (1.7 million followers), X @ugmyogyakarta (1.1 million followers), TikTok @ugm.id (837,000 followers), and Facebook @UGMYogyakarta (503,000 followers).
