As many as 8,745 new students of Universitas Gadjah Mada have formed the configuration of United Nations logo at the Pancasila Square in front of Grha Sabha Pramana Hall UGM on Saturday (6/8). This marks the end of the induction of the new students of UGM, officially closed by the Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D.
The new students wearing white and blue traditional hats symbolises the readiness of UGM to be global citizens that pay contribution and care to addressing global problems. It also sends a message that Indonesia pays great care to world peace.
Transportation Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi, who atteneded the closing ceremony said that UGM made new breakthroughs in the student induction. “This induction format makes the students as academic beings that have great human relations,” he said.
The Minister in his remarks said that UGM is a university with a diversity of students from around Indonesia, which will make the students have social awareness. “Just be sure that someone with intelligence will be better and be driven to sucess,” he added.
He further asked the new students to develop themselves by doing positive activities outside their study time. In the future they will be immersed among society so they need to have competitive advantage that can be grown through Student Activity Units, and “the students will learn and obtain skills and commitment for their journey to the future,” he said.
The Rector of UGM, asked the students to promise themselves to have UGM personality, Indonesian personality, and become world leaders. “I congratulate all of you and wish you good luck to study at UGM and to be world leaders,” she said.
