For some time, the Society of Respiratory Care Indonesia held the 22nd International Meeting on Respiratory Care Indonesia (RESPINA) 2021. In its sequential event, they also held the Respiquizz annual competition for international medical students focused on the science of respiration that was attended by 17 medical faculties around Indonesia. In its competition, the UGM team from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing (FKKMK), consisting of Hermanuaji Sihageng dan Yolanda Kadir, successfully brought the first award home.
Hermanuaji Sihageng, representing his friend, conveyed his gratitude for winning this competition even though they were overwhelmed with some tasks and responsibilities to do. Besides, this competition was their last chance to participate because of their medical education final period.
A man, who is well known as Ageng, revealed three stages of selection: administration selection, quick-test selection, and interview. They had successfully passed these stages after having several times to discuss and learn simulation tests given by their supervisors and material advisers from UGM FKKMK. The supervisors are dr. Rahmaningsih Mara Sabirin, M.Sc and dr. Siswanto, Sp.P. While their material advisers are dr. Astari Pranindyasari Pradopo, Sp.P and dr. Junaedy Yunus, M.Sc, Ph.D.
Besides the winner title, Ageng assessed that he could gain another benefit from this competition. One of which is the study of pulmonology that he had not studied during the co-assistant period as a doctor.
“We are glad that we made a great achievement in our final education. Hopefully, the next generation will continue and pursue our achievements one day. Don’t worry about engaging in the selection. Quoting Henry Ford’s statement, ‘Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right. It depends on us; we make our own decisions to be whatever version of ourselves to achieve our dreams. Keep going, viva media!” he concluded.
