Thirty-eight partner companies and government agencies participated in Career Days 2024, organized by the UGM Vocational College (SV UGM), on Wednesday (May 15) at Grha Sabha Pramana.
Several partner companies and government agencies opened direct recruitment at this job fair, including PT Kalimantan Prima Persada, PT Mitrabara Adiperdana, PT Pertamina Gas Negara, PT Steel Pipe Industry of Indonesia, and the Indonesian Ministry of Finance.
Visitors and job seekers could obtain direct information about job opportunities with various companies.
The Dean of SV UGM, Professor Agus Maryono, stated that SV UGM holds a yearly job fair to connect partner companies with young talents, especially UGM students who will soon enter the workforce.
Furthermore, this job fair exhibition also provides students and alumni with knowledge and insights regarding the job fields currently needed by companies and government agencies, which align with the workforce’s changing competencies.
“The number of job fields is increasing, but it doesn’t necessarily mean job absorption is also increasing. Often, industries require competencies that university graduates do not possess. This challenge is the main basis for SV UGM to bridge the gap between companies and students,” said Dean Agus Maryono.
According to him, the collaboration between SV UGM and partner companies makes it easier for SV UGM alumni to find jobs after graduating.
“We record that, on average, our alumni can find a job within a maximum of four months after graduating. Even if they haven’t found a job within that period, we can help them through our partner companies,” he said.
However, the development of the digital world allows a university graduate to work anywhere, anytime, and even in different companies. Job opportunities are also available for students through internships or work practice.
“I think this needs to be done so that students can understand the working world. We at SV UGM also observe that even before graduating, our students have already found jobs, meaning they are working and earning a salary,” he emphasized.
The UGM Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni, Dr. Arie Sujito, in his welcoming speech, stated that collaboration between the education sector and the private sector will be able to solve various problems related to job opportunities.
“I often emphasize that we must collaborate and cooperate. I think Career Days is not just about connecting, but also a moral responsibility of the university to ensure the continuity of its graduates,” said Dr. Sujito.
Career Days 2024 took place for two days, from 15-16 May 2024, starting at 08.00-16.00 WIB. The committee also opened exhibition booths for all UGM students from partner companies. Visitors could ask questions directly, consult, and even learn about the recruitment process in which they can participate.
