1,542 Graduates of UGM were inaugurated

The Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M.Eng., Ph.D, again inaugurated 1,542 graduates of Undergraduate and Diploma programs at Grha Sabha Pramana Auditorium, Thursday (19/11). Until the first period of academic year of 2009/2010, UGM has produced 205,621 graduates consisting of 29,022 in Diploma program, 131,668 in bachelor's degree program, 42,489 master's, 1,302 specialist's, and 1,140 doctoral programs.

 

For this graduation, Nur Aini Fitriya Ardiani Aniqoh from Faculty of Social and Political Sciences had the fastest study period of three years in undergraduate program while in Diploma Program, Thomas Rudiyanto from Faculty of Engineering spent 1 year and 11 months of study.

 

The youngest graduate of undergraduate program was Anantamurti Purwa Hapsari (22 years 8 months 13 days old) from Faculty of Agriculture while Reymon Onesimus Betty (20 years and 23 days old) from Faculty of Cultural Sciences became the youngest of the diploma program. In total, 243 graduates of Undergraduate program and 17 of Diploma program were granted cum laude distinctions. ‘The highest GPA, 3.98, in Undergraduate Program was gained by Giovanni Yoko Kristianto from Faculty of Engineering while in Diploma Program the highest GPA, 3.70, was for Yanti Nurhasanah from Faculty of Cultural Sciences,” said the Rector.

 

The Rector also told about UGM’s series of achievements in 4 recent months, such as the Young Researcher Award from LIPI, Indonesian Rocket Competition from LAPAN, and Human Ecology Scientific Paper obtained in Bogor and the most prestigious achievement for 14 UGM students who gained the gold medal in Mondialogo Engineering Award 2009 in Stuttgart, Germany.

 

In his address the Rector said that Universitas Gadjah Mada hoped that its alumni can take important role as the trend-setter of system, working culture, and leadership development, which are part of the solutions to possible threats facing the nation. The Rector said that this is not easy. The process is very dynamic and complex, but the alumni are expected to collectively solve the problem. Today, Indonesia is in transitional acceleration to become the important player for solving national and global problems. “Indonesia is facing many problems which are not easy. They need intellectual, emotional and spiritual collective intelligence to solve. Therefore, the graduates are required to always develop the ability to apply the values of Universitas Gadjah Mada for civilisation, usefulness and happiness, "he said.
