UGM Student Center (or Gelanggang Mahasiswa UGM as it is popularly called) has entered its 35th anniversary. Since its establishment in July 31, 1975, UGM Student Center became the center of activities for students to learn organization and socialization. To commemorate its anniversary, UGM Forum of Communications) held an event entitled Together For Student Center for two days from 7-8 August 2010.
According to the Public Relation Officer of the Forum of Communication, Taufiq Nur Rahman, this event is not only a means of maintaining relationships between alumni of UGM Student Center and current students but also for sharing stories and accomplishments with the Directorate of Students Affairs. "This opportunity is also as a medium for providing advice and criticism of the management of student activities at Gelanggang," he said at UGM on Friday (6/8).
Taufiq mentioned that the Anniversary this year consists of two series of major events, started with a sharing with Directorate of Student Affairs UGM on Saturday (7/8). This activity brought together the members and the Director of Student Affairs UGM and staff.
Furthermore is the celebration of the 35th Anniversary on Sunday night (8/8). The event intended to connect the members and reunite the alumni was enlivened with a number of art performances by students of UGM. Among those were poetry readings by members of the Theatre of Gadjah Mada (TGM), Lenggot Wilaksita dance performance by Peksimida UGM Team 2010, Tongkol Teduh Kroncong Rhythm, and Suryo Sukendro Acoustic. Completing the event were prayers and the Tumpeng (rice cone) cutting.
