JAKARTA – UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D., officially opened the 3rd Indonesia Industry Research Forum on UGM Jakarta Campus, Wednesday (30/11). The opening was marked with gong beating by the Rector witnessed by senior researcher of Ministry of Health, Dr. Soewarta Kosen, Vice Chairman of Indonesia Chamber of Commerce, Bambang Sujagad, Corporate Secretary of PT Kimia Farma, Adhi Nugroho.
In his welcoming speech, the Rector emphasized to continue developing science and technology for the benefit through research and community service. He said the research is entirely intended to improve the community welfare. "There are many opportunities for universities to develop sciences and apply them for usefulness, civilization and happiness amidst issues on national welfare that have not been addressed in balance," he said.
On the occasion, the Rector welcomed IIRF forum which brings together university researchers, government and industrial actors in the development of research products that can be used by industry. Not only provides benefits for researchers, it also strengthens the competitiveness of industrial products. "Indonesia can become stronger if the government, industry and researchers form a community mentality which trusts and loves domestic products," he said.
Chairman of UGM Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM), Prof. Dr. Ir. Danang Parikesit, M.Sc., said that Indonesia Industry Research Forum has been conducted since 2009. It is one of LPPM’s contributions to support the industrial progress of the research results which are useful for wider society.
"This forum aims to provide inputs to the government related to the formulation of industrial policy as well as improvement of national industry competitiveness," he said.
The event which lasted for two days with the theme Independent National Health Industry: Challenges and Opportunities for Higher Education Research was attended by government representatives, industry and academicians. IIRF 2011 is supported by Ministry of Health, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Education and Culture, Indonesia Chamber of Commerce, PT. Kimia Farma Tbk, and PT. Kalbe Farma Tbk.
