YOGYAKARTA – The Government continues to support vocational education in Indonesia. The proof is the government has promoted the establishment of 100 new polytechnics, as well as encouraging the composition of SMK (Vocational School): SMA (High School) to be between 60:40. For Yogyakarta, the comparison of SMK: SMA has now reached approximately 55:45.
It is similar to UGM. To support the strengthening of the national vocational education, Vocational School of UGM holds Vocational Days UGM (V-Days) 2012, on 27-29 November 2012.
"This support is also still in line with the series of the 62th anniversary of UGM," Committee Chairman of the V-Days UGM 2012, Dr. Agus Nugroho, explained on Monday (19/11).
According to Agus, V-Days series of events consists of national seminar and job fair as well as stand-up comedy competition for students from 1-2 December 2012. National Seminar on the theme Synergy between Vocational Education and Industry will be held at the Grand Aston Yogyakarta Hotel & Convention Center. The keynote speaker at the event is Minister of Manpower and Transmigration, Drs. H.A. Muhaimin Iskandar.
Meanwhile, other speakers are Drs. Bagus Marijanto, MA (Director of Apprenticeship, Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration), Ir. Anang Tjahyono, M.T. (Director of SMK Coaching), Megawati Santoso, Ph.D. (Chairman of the Preparation of KKNI, DitBelMawa Ministry of Education and Culture), Djonggi Gultom (Director of PT. Hexindo Adiperkasa, Tbk. Subsidiary Hitachi Construction Machinery Japan, partner of Heavy Equipment Engineering, SV-UGM), Dr. dr. R. Habib Hapsara Rachmat, DPH. (Senior consultant of Health Development, Ministry of Health), Yakub Liman (Director of Astra Polytechnic), Elang Gumilang (Entrepreneur), and others.
"Vocational School UGM with 24 study programs is ready to welcome the presence and participation of the public in the series of V-Days," Agus said.
Similarly, UGM Vocational School Director, Ir. Hotma Prawoto, MT said that at this seminar the development of Indonesian Vocational Human Resource Database System will be conceived and initiated to be integrated with various departments, such as the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, and HR systems in the industry.
Hotma explained the Job Fair, Industry & Vocational Expo, will be held at Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP) UGM by presenting dozens of leading companies/industries such as Astra Daihatsu Motor, Nutrifood, SMC Pneumatics, BNI, Bank BTN, PT. Denso, Inni Happy Dream, PT. Cussonz, Inti Ganda Pertama, PT. Dharma Polimetal, and PT. GMUM.
"The three events in the V-Days will mark the soft-launching of VDC-SVUGM (Vocational Development Center) that is expected to provide a sustainable impact on the strengthening of the national vocational education,” Hotma concluded.
