As many as 30 volunteers from Universitas Gadjah Mada are deployed to Jakarta as a form of care following the flooding occuring in the capital. The deployment of team of volunteers was released by Vice Rector for Research and Community Service, Prof. Dr. Suratman, M.Sc, on Friday (18/1) at the office of DERU (Disaster Response Unit) UGM.
The team consists of DERU, student diving unit, boyscout, student regiment, Faculty of Geography, doctors and nurses from Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Psychology and Veterinary Medicine.
In his remarks Prof. Suratman stated that the event was a form of care and concern following the flooding that had hit Jakarta earlier this week. The emergency response status enacted in Jakarta made UGM to immediately take strategic measures by deploying the students to the capital.
“The activity that involves KAGAMA alumni association is in line with UGM vision and mission,” said Suratman.
The team will focus on logistics distribution and humanitarian aid to people and cattle. “The focus is on community, communication and cartography,” he added.
Meanwhile, manager of DERU UGM, Slamet Widiyanto, S.Si, M.Sc, said the team would be deployed during the emergency response until 27 January 2013. They will establish an UGM stand at the office of local chief of Pademangan on Jalan Budi Mulia 1, Pademangan, North Jakarta.
“The main stand is in UGM Jakarta Campus while together with KAGAMA DKI we establish our stand in Pademangan,” said Slamet.
Slamet added that donation can be transferred to the account of UGM Peduli Bencana, on behalf of Rector of UGM in Bank Mandiri account no. 137.0000.767.778. Other forms of donation can be sent to Posko Peduli Bencana DERU UGM, Bulaksumur Blok D7, Yogyakarta 55281 and Posko Peduli Jakarta UGM Kantor Kecamatan Pademangan Jl.
