Actress Raline Shah offered advice to hundreds of new students from the UGM Faculty of Agriculture (Agriculture UGM) on Wednesday (Jul. 31). She was accompanied by her father, Rahmat Shah, who has significantly contributed to developing several facilities at Agriculture UGM.
Raline was invited to speak at a motivational seminar titled “Becoming Resilient, Excellent, and Creative Youth in the Digital Era” as part of the PIONIR Gadjah Mada activities at the faculty level.
According to her, young people often feel insecure when making choices. Therefore, each needs to develop themselves and be grateful for their choices.
In her presentation, Raline shared her experiences learning the importance of absorbing knowledge in various fields. She mentioned that she discovered her passion after trying different things and emphasized the importance of doing something wholeheartedly.
“What is valuable is our experience. We experience it, and we can feel it. The happiness we get from that experience can motivate us to grow. Don’t worry about what others say; focus on yourself,” the actress explained in response to a question from a new student.
Raline also shared her experiences as a member of an athletics team during high school, where she learned not to compare her achievements with others.
“If we have to compare, we should compare ourselves from yesterday to today,” she said.
Furthermore, Raline emphasized the importance of having clear goals and reciprocity in achieving productivity. She also highlighted the importance of prioritizing people, profit, and the planet, striving for a balance that young people in Indonesia should aim to achieve.
Currently, Raline is an ambassador for Save Soil, a global movement for which she volunteers.
“I have learned much about agriculture, the environment, and even agricultural technology. Through this, I have also learned about potential future crises,” Raline said when reporters asked.
Raline hopes that her visit will motivate UGM students to understand better the importance of the environment and food security in Indonesia.
The Dean of Agriculture UGM, Dr. Jaka Widada, welcomed Raline at the motivational seminar for new students. He hopes Raline’s motivation can inspire students to care about sustainable development.
“We will learn how to be responsible, honest, and adaptive to technology, just as Raline has done to inspire many people,” he said.
