Kagama Lari Untuk Berbagi (KLUB) is again holding its annual UGM Trail Run, scheduled at Karang Pramuka Field, Kaliurang, on Oct. 6, 2024.
As a prelude to the event on Saturday morning (Aug. 31), a warm-up session titled Road to UGM Trail Run was held at Wisma Kagama, UGM.
The Road to UGM Trail Run 2024 event started at Wisma Kagama with a warm-up led by Surya, Chair of UGM’s Athletic Student Activity Unit (UKM Atletik). Participants were divided into three pace groups: Pace 7, Pace 8, and Pace 9+.
The route, covering about 5 kilometers, began from Wisma Kagama, passing through Tugu Jogja, Tugu Station, Kota Baru, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, and back to Wisma Kagama for a cool-down session.
Surya (Vocational College, 2022), Chair of UKM Atletik, explained that the pace division was implemented to assess each participant’s running ability. Along with other UKM Atletik members, he guided participants in each pace group.
“I think this alumni-initiated event is lovely. We’re also happy to accompany the runners, and it’s certainly beneficial for health, especially with the brief from FK-KMK UGM,” he said.
A team from the Department of Anesthesiology, UGM Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK UGM) delivered the briefing on the UGM Trail Run.
Due to frequent injuries during running events, the Anesthesia Emergency Education for Society (ADEM) team provided first aid training for non-medical responders. Thus, all participants were encouraged to grasp the knowledge and practice presented fully.
The briefing began with an explanation of first aid procedures, followed by hands-on CPR training, which all participants attended.
The knowledge gained from this session will be helpful for runners participating in the UGM Trail Run 2024, enabling them to anticipate potential emergencies.
“We hope to educate everyone about first aid so we can assist when runners need help during the run,” explained Budhi Rahyono, UGM Trail Run committee chair.
The Road to UGM Trail Run participants included alumni and representatives from faculties, work units, UGM communities, student activity units (UKMs), and UGM students.
After returning to Wisma Kagama, all participants had refreshments and breakfast before attending the briefing.
Novia, a Pace 8 participant representing the staff of the Faculty of Agriculture, shared her experience participating in the Road to UGM Trail Run 2024. The event was beneficial, especially after feeling drained from a week-long work.
“It burned many calories, and I was so happy to run with other runners. The brief session also added to my knowledge about first aid for non-medical responders,” she said.
Before the pandemic, the UGM Trail Run was first held in 2019 at Wanagama, Gunung Kidul. The event was paused due to the Covid-19 pandemic and resumed in 2022. This year’s Road to UGM Trail Run 2024 also included door prizes and free entry slots for the UGM Trail Run 2024.
