UGM students have succeeded at the 2023 National Student Quranic Recitation Competition (MTQMN). The event at Brawijaya University, from November 3-10, 2023, saw the UGM delegation bring home four medals.
The four medals consist of 1 gold medal, one silver medal, and two bronze medals.
The delegation members Herkin Yossyafaat (Law) and Muhammad Asri Shalahuddin Jadid (Agriculture) won the gold medal in the Quranic Scientific Paper category.
Then, the silver medal was achieved by the delegation consisting of Mohammad Itqon Alexander (Engineering), Muhammad Dzaky Khairy (Vocational College), and Mochammad Usman Hadi (Vocational College) in the Quranic Understanding category.
Two bronze medals were presented to Gayuh Ardian Fajri (Vocational College) in the Quranic Art Decoration (Male) category and Arina Husnayani (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in the Quranic Art Decoration (Female) category.
The Secretary of the UGM Directorate of Student Affairs, Dr. Hempri Suyatna, stated that the achievements are the result of the student’s hard work and the support from various parties, including mentors who dedicated their time and energy to guide them, facilitators who assisted in conducting the delegation’s training, and the support from faculties and the university.
Before participating in the 2023 MTQMN, the UGM MTQ Community held a selection process in February. Subsequently, the delegation was tested and nurtured for approximately two months to prepare for the MTQMN competition.
“This achievement is the maximum result of the coaching process that has been carried out. We will evaluate and conduct more intensive and sustainable coaching,” Dr. Suyatna said.
He hopes that the synergy between understanding religious values and scientific knowledge can make young generations, especially students, socially sensitive and resilient individuals.
MTQMN is held biennially by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology to develop students’ talents and interests in the Quranic recitation arts field.
This year’s theme was the Actualization of Qur’anic Values in Creating Golden Talents of Indonesia. Fifty-three universities from across the country attended it.
