The UGM’s Directorate of Community Service has equipped the Patriot Expedition Team (TEP) 2026 with comprehensive training before deploying them to transmigration areas in South Papua and North Maluku Provinces. During a workshop held on July 23, 2026, participants received training on mental health, occupational safety and health (OSH), risk management, and socio-cultural understanding to prepare them for community service in the field. The workshop formed part of a series of preparations for UGM alumni and partners from various universities participating in the Patriot Expedition Team 2026.
The workshop was designed to strengthen participants’ readiness, both technically and in their ability to adapt to local communities in their assigned locations. In addition to attending training sessions, participants also engaged in discussions with local government representatives to ensure the programs they implement address local communities’ needs. This approach is expected to support more targeted community service while strengthening collaboration with regional stakeholders.
Head of the UGM Patriot Expedition Team, Muklis, said the workshop complemented the various preparations carried out before deployment. Muklis said that, in addition to strengthening participants’ understanding of technical materials, the workshop also provided emergency response simulations and health kits to support their assignments in the field.
“This training was very comprehensive because it not only covered theoretical materials but also included simulations on how to respond to emergency situations. We also received health kits, which will certainly be very useful during our field assignments,” he said.
For participants, the training provided valuable insights into the challenges they are likely to encounter during their community service. Tri Nuryati, a member of the Patriot Expedition Team 2026 assigned to the Muting Transmigration Area in Merauke Regency, South Papua, considered the workshop highly relevant to field conditions.
“This workshop has been very beneficial and relevant for us, especially because we received training ranging from health to risk management. We hope that all Patriot team members can carry out the program smoothly and remain in good health,” she said.
A similar view was expressed by Patriot Expedition Team 2026 participant Bima Aditya, who will also be assigned to Muting, Merauke Regency. He hopes that all participants will successfully carry out their community service while creating meaningful benefits for the communities they serve.
“I hope that we, the UGM Patriot Expedition Team, can make meaningful contributions, not only for ourselves but also for the communities where we are assigned. As the Javanese proverb urip iku urup says, may everything we do bring benefits to others,” said Bima.
Through the Patriot Expedition Team 2026 Preparatory Workshop, DPkM UGM expects all participants to gain more comprehensive readiness before being deployed to transmigration areas. The knowledge, skills, and adaptability acquired during the training are expected to support sustainable community empowerment programs while strengthening UGM’s contribution to the development of transmigration areas across Indonesia.
