The Judo Student Activity Unit of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UKM Judo UGM) achieved a commendable accomplishment at the 2026 Special Region of Yogyakarta Ju-Jitsu Open Regional Championship (Kejurda Ju-Jitsu DIY Open 2026), held on April 18 at the PJSI DIY Judo Dojo. The championship featured two main formats: the Gi category, in which athletes compete wearing a kimono or special uniform, and the No-Gi category, in which athletes compete without it. This event serves as a benchmark for the development of Ju-Jitsu in the Yogyakarta region and as a platform for athletes to sharpen their skills in a competitive environment.
Of the five UKM Judo UGM members who participated in the competition, three secured podium finishes. Jibril Alifsin Jusril Raditya, a student of Philosophy UGM, won silver medals in the Gi -69 kg and No-Gi -69 kg categories. Marcellino Agustinando, a student of FMIPA UGM, claimed a gold medal in the Gi -77 kg category. Meanwhile, M. Akmal Tian Tsaubuan, a Geography UGM student, earned a silver medal in the Gi +84 kg category and a bronze medal in the No-Gi +84 kg category.
In preparation for the competition, UKM Judo UGM trained intensively for one month, increasing their routine practice sessions from twice to four times per week. They also expanded their sparring sessions across various martial arts training centers as part of their evaluation efforts. Within this short period, they focused on developing their grappling techniques.

One of the medalists and Chair of UKM Judo UGM, Jibril, expressed his satisfaction at winning two silver medals after a long hiatus from competition following knee surgery.
“I am grateful to have won two silver medals in this competition. During the matches, I truly enjoyed every part of the process,” Jibril said on Tuesday (Apr. 28).
This achievement reflects the commitment of UKM Judo UGM in developing its athletes’ potential not only in judo but also in related martial arts such as Ju-Jitsu. It also demonstrates that UKM Judo UGM continues to grow as a productive platform for nurturing martial arts athletes within the university environment.
In closing, Jibril hopes this achievement will inspire other members to participate in upcoming competitions. He emphasized that the goal is not only to strive for victory but also to appreciate every step of the journey.
“Hopefully, this can motivate our fellow members to see that UKM Judo is not only result-oriented but also values enjoying the entire process and journey toward success,” he concluded.
