The Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing Universitas Gadjah Mada (FK-KMK UGM) once again held a book launch and review event for a publication titled “Programmatic Assessment dalam Pendidikan Berbasis Outcome-Based Education (OBE): Konsep dan Petunjuk Pelaksanaan bagi Institusi Pendidikan Kedokteran dan Kesehatan” (Programmatic Assessment in Outcome-Based Education (OBE): Concepts and Implementation Guidelines for Medical and Health Education Institutions) on Wednesday (Jun. 4) at the first-floor auditorium of the Tahir Foundation North Wing Building. The book was authored by Professor Mora Claramita, as the lead author, together with 78 collaborators.
Professor Mora explained that there are five key components of Programmatic Assessment in medical education: learning activities, assessment activities, supporting activities, intermediate evaluation, and final evaluation. Based on this framework, the book was designed to assist medical schools in implementing OBE curricula, from conceptual understanding to practical guidelines.
“Learning and assessment should be integrated, and the key lies in narrative feedback,” she explained.
She also noted that the writing process took considerable time because the book was written during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before being compiled into a book, the research findings had been used in advocacy efforts to develop assessments.
“The authors had to conduct three workshops to align their perspectives,” she recalled.
As one of the book reviewers, Professor Rr. Titi Savitri Prihatiningsih, of FK-KMK UGM, likened the book to a highly practical cookbook. She noted that all technical aspects related to OBE are explained in the book, including numerous examples of practical implementation steps. The book introduces a new paradigm in programmatic assessment.
“This book is highly recommended for medical and health professional education institutions and can serve as an essential reference for educators across educational institutions,” she said.

Another reviewer, Professor Eggi Arguni, stated that Programmatic Assessment is a valuable concept that can generate meaningful outcomes when implemented in its appropriate context. She emphasized several key aspects that must be considered in its implementation, including the triangulation of multiple data sources, documentation, and supporting information technology systems, human resources, and faculty understanding and engagement.
“Programmatic Assessment is built upon excellent fundamental principles, but its implementation still faces many challenges,” she said.
The Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at FK-KMK UGM, Dr. Ahmad Hamim Sadewa, stated that Programmatic Assessment is not a simple undertaking, as it requires a comprehensive understanding of its concepts, mechanisms, and implementation processes.
“Through the assessment system we develop, we hope the quality of medical education at FK-KMK and throughout Indonesia will continue to improve in the future,” said Dr. Hamim.
Closing the event, UGM Press Manager Dr. I Wayan Mustika expressed his pride in the book’s publication. He noted that the book offers a concrete solution for programmatic assessment and is expected to become an important resource for curriculum development. Its publication serves as tangible evidence of UGM’s contribution to the transformation of higher education, particularly in medicine and public health.
“We hope this book review event will inspire further discussions and provide valuable references for improving Indonesia’s education system, especially in medicine and public health, while also inspiring other areas of higher education,” said Dr. Mustika.
