UGM Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni Dr. Arie Sujito inaugurated 50 Student Activity Unit (UKM) leaders and 26 community leaders on Friday, Mar. 21, 2025.
The inauguration, held in the Multimedia Room of UGM’s Central Office, was attended by one representative from each UKM and community, serving as the chairperson.
UKM advisors were also present at the event.
The ceremony began with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, ‘Indonesia Raya,’ and the Gadjah Mada Hymn.
The leaders then jointly recited the Sapta Prasetya Gadjah Mada Student Organization Oath.
In his speech, Vice-Rector Sudjito emphasized that the inauguration of student organization leaders is not just a formality but a reflection of UGM’s trust in encouraging organizations and communities to grow, advance, and develop.
“UGM recognizes the dedication you all have shown, which will help shape your character from an early stage,” he stated.
He acknowledged that the success and achievements of student organizations and communities are due to the support of advisors and coaches.
He expressed his gratitude to the UKM advisors who have guided the organizations.
“I believe the advisors provide valuable perspectives and stimulate the ideas you work on,” said the vice-rector.
In addition to fostering creativity, interests, and talents, student organizations are expected to serve as platforms for character development and organizational skills.
He urged the student organization and community leaders to use their experience to practice persuasion and critical thinking.
“Critical thinking is a vital skill for all of us,” he concluded.
The event concluded with a joint prayer and coordination between the leaders and advisors.
This inauguration marks a new chapter for UGM’s student organizations in their activities for the year.
