The Student Organization (Ormawa) Delegation Team from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) brought home awards at the Abdidaya Ormawa 2024, held from Nov. 7-10, 2024, at Udayana University, Bali.
While competing against 160 student organizations from 66 universities across Indonesia, UGM’s team achieved three awards in student and faculty categories.
Abdidaya Ormawa, a program organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, aims to recognize student organizations, faculty advisors, and village partners for community empowerment efforts.
This year’s Abdidaya was themed “Strengthening Organizational Capacity and Students’ Soft Skills as Agents of National Development Transformation Based on Technological Innovation and Partnerships to Achieve a Progressive Indonesia.”
UGM’s delegation advanced with various compelling proposals. Among them was the Tourism Student Association (Himapa) from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB UGM) with the program “SEAN (Sembrani-Agrotourism and Education)” in Watusigar Village, Gunungkidul.
This program focuses on developing a Community-Based Tourism model. Himapa’s team won 1st Place in the Visionary Ormawa category.
Ferdian Dwi Saputra, Head of the Himapa UGM Team, explained that the SEAN program focuses on mentoring local tourism, farming, youth, and small business groups.
“With our presence and support from various parties, including the university, partners, village government, and the people of Watusigar, we hope to work together to develop tourism potential in Watusigar Village,” said Saputra in a written statement on Wednesday (Nov. 13).
The Himapa UGM faculty advisor for the SEAN program also received an award. Dr. Mohamad Rachmadian Narotama, a lecturer from FIB UGM, was awarded 2nd Place in the Faculty Advisors with Best Community Empowerment Knowledge category.
The second team representing UGM was the Public Policy and Management Student Association (Gamapi) from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol UGM).
This team received 1st Place in the Most Innovative Team in Technology and/or Social Solutions category with their proposal, “Banjarasri Organic Waste Recycling Center: Optimizing Pig Farm Waste with Censoring and Monitoring Technology Using Effective Microorganism 4.”
Alhaqi Insan Pratama, Head of the Gamapi Team, shared that this event provided a valuable opportunity to present beneficial, innovative solutions for the community while showcasing students’ roles in supporting sustainable technology development in waste and agriculture management.
Pratama explained in the proposal that the Gamapi UGM team innovatively developed sensor technology to monitor pig farm waste management in real time.
The Nawasatya UGM team also participated in Abdidaya Ormawa 2024, a program focused on creating a resilient and empowered village in Sendangrejo Village, Yogyakarta. Florentina Rachel Yolanda, Head of the Nawasatya UGM Community, noted that all three teams had prepared for the Abdidaya expo since October 2024.
“Preparation for Abdidaya was exhausting, but it didn’t feel heavy with everyone equally invested. All teams were enthusiastic about preparing for Abdidaya,” added Yolanda.
The Secretary of the Directorate of Student Affairs, Dr. Hempri Suyatna, warmly welcomed this outstanding achievement. According to him, the success of the student organizations demonstrates students’ awareness and responsiveness to social issues within society. He hopes to see more impactful student-led innovations that make a real difference in communities.
