Owing to his persistence in a number of researches, a lecturer in Technical Engineering of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Muhammad Agung Bramantya, M.T., has won two international awards.
The first was the Young Engineer Award 2009 from Japan Society of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics (JSAEM) in November 2009 and it was preceded by the Fujiwara Award from Keio University. Bram is the only foreign national to have received the Fujiwara Award; the seven other recipients were Japanese. Keio University is one of the most prestigious universities in Japan.
Bram said that his supervisor had nominated him for the award as he was considered as meeting the requirement with 10 national and international scientific publications, award for Best Poster in Germany, and his participation in the AUN/Seed-Net & International Student Society at Keio.
“I was one of the seven Japanese people who received the award. This was the first time for somebody from outside Japan to have received the award. I was awarded the Young Engineer Award for my paper entitled Ultrasonic Study on the Clustering Structures of Magnetorheological Fluids Under Uniform Magnetic Field,” Bramantya said in a release on Tuesday (13/7).
The doctoral candidate at Keio University is focusing on his research on ultrasonic method to examine fluids. The physical natures of the fluids he is working on can be determined by external condition, which is the electromagnetic field. There are two kinds of fluids: Magnetic Fluids and Magnetorheological Fluids that is considered smart fluid. Its most dramatic nature is its ability to transform from liquid to solid substance by electromagnetic field application.
