Universitas Gadjah Mada Rector, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D, has officially accepted as many as 9,536 new students for 2015/2016 academic year at the courtyard of Grha Sabha Pramana on Monday (18/8).
To mark the occassion, the Rector put on university jacket to some new students.
She said that as high as 70 percents of the new students were from middle class family while the rest from the underpriviledged ones. She expected this would not minimise the achievements that will be made by each student, because every year, UGM allocates up to 200 billion in funds for scholarships.
“We wish to educate the students from all parts of the country, even abroad. Just yesterday we celebrated our country’s 70th Independence Day on which we campaigned for work spirit. Thus, we’re responsible for generating new students that are capable to work well whilst being innovative, creative, having good manners and inspired by our ideology of Pancasila,” she said.
“If we excel, it would be tough for other states to make us their market or us becoming their labourers. It’s there that UGM exists to guide the young generation to make Indonesia a leading nation,” she said.
Education and Teaching Director, Dr. Agr. Ir. Sri Peni Wastutiningsih, reported as many as the 9,536 new students consists of 7,299 Undergraduate students and 2,237 Diploma students.
“As many as 862 (9 percents) are students on Bidik Misi scholarship and PBUTM”, Sri Peni said.
Sri Peni added there were 264,796 applicants for UGM Undergraduate and Vocational School with selectivity ratio at 1:23.
“In addition, 53 students are coming from Denmark, Austria, Sweden, the Netherlands and Japan. Our youngest student is Aldo Meyolla Geraldino (Faculty of Medicine) who is 14 years and 7 months old,” said Sri Peni.
UGM Student Affairs Director, Dr. Drs. Senawi, M.P, said the new students would follow a training from 18-23 Agustus 2015 with the theme Scientific Integration to Welcome Asean Community with the spirit of Pancasila Values.
