Yogyakarta- Singer Iwan Fals and Chair of Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Mahfud M.D., will enliven the 65th anniversary of Faculty of Law UGM which falls on 17 February 2011. Iwan Fals will perform in musical concert Justice for Indonesia with Love at Grha Sabha Pramana on Saturday (19/2). The ballad and country singer will be accompanied by Indonesia Wind Orchestra. Meanwhile, Mahfud, M.D, will give scientific oration in open senate assembly at Faculty of Law, Thursday, 17 February 2011.
Dean of Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Marsudi Triatmodjo, LL.M., said that the presence of Iwan Fals and Mahfud M.D is to enliven the anniversary of the Faculty which took the theme Ideal of State of Law. Both of them will make a moral appeal to the nation about the importance of supremacy and rules of law as foundation which must be embedded in state system. “We want to share vision because our law enactment system will be better if it is controlled by a legal enforcer who has noble character and good moral,” said Marsudi to the press, Saturday (12/2).
According to Marsudi, the current condition of law is getting worse in people’s view. Therefore, all academic community and alumni of the Faculty who still respect idealism will not ignore the existing problems. “The anniversary this time is a momentum to reflect and take real action and responsibility of law in this country,” he said.
In its 65th anniversary, Faculty of Law UGM has given big contribution by producing legal thoughts and thousands graduates of law. Up to now, there are 13 thousands of UGM alumni who work in many sectors by becoming judges, lawyers, and attorneys. “This faculty is in the top four producers of judges in Indonesia,” he said.
Committee chairman of the anniversary, Drs. Paripurna Suganda, S.H., LL.M., said that the anniversary holds 10 activities. There will be scientific oration, Open Senate Assembly, and Workshop on Curriculum Renewal held on Thursday (17/2). The next day (18/2) will see Ideal of State of Law meeting which presents former secretary of state, Dr. Bambang Kesowo, and alumni. Besides, social work in form of planting trees and handover of aids for survivors of Merapi eruption by Iwan Fals, Marissa Haque and Ikang Fawzi will also be held on the same day on Friday (18/2).
Furthermore, on Saturday (19/2), a concert will be held, called Justice for Indonesia with Love presenting Iwan Fals & Indonesia Wind Orchestra (IWO) and UGM Students Choir at Grha Sabha Pramana. The concert is a charity to give aid for survivors of Merapi eruption. For those who want to attend the concert, the committee provides balcony tickets costing 25 thousands rupiah and 50 thousands rupiah for VIP. “All the results of ticket selling are to help survivors of Merapi eruption,” said Indro ‘Kimpling’ Suseno, Committee Chairman of the Concert.
