A total of 300 students from 32 universities in Indonesia will compete in the national student badminton competition, the UGM Cup 2011, organized by UGM’s Badminton Student Activity Unit. The competition is held in a week, 9-14 May 2011, at the Badminton Indoor Field and will be opened by the Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi M. Eng., Ph.D. A number of Universities that send their representatives, among others, are State University of Yogyakarta, Ahmad Dahlan University, University of Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, UGM, Medan Polytechnic, Lampung State Polytechnic and Polytechnic of Bali.
Chairman of the Badminton Unit, Dzikrina Fitriani, said the current competition has team and individual categories. The team category consists of men and women teams. Meanwhile, the individual category consists of men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed doubles.
Further said by Dzikrina, UGM sends about 20 students who will engage in a number of team and individual categories. "We send 20 athletes who will compete in a number of team or individuals categories. Hopefully, the athletes can present medals for UGM," she expressed her hope.
