UGM-Chevron Establish Cooperation

YOGYAKARTA-Universitas Gadjah Mada establish a partnership with PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI) in order to improve the quality of education and research in engineering, especially energy resources in the earth sciences, engineering, oil and gas and geothermal engineering.  Form of cooperation is implemented in the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two parties. The signing of MoU was conducted by UGM Rector, Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc.Sc, the President Director of PT. CPI, Ir. A.H. Batubara in the Professors Council’s  Meeting Room UGM on Tuesday (10/7).

After signing the MoU, the President Director of PT.CPI said the cooperation with UGM is the implementation of general guidelines of University Partnership Program (UPP), which will last up to five years.

"UPP has been done at least in eleven countries in Asia, including Thailand, India and Indonesia," Batubara said.

Batubara further said the cooperation between UGM and PT. CPI has last for a long time. He hoped with the recent UPP programs, the quality and quantity of co-operation that has been conducted can be increased. Batubara stressed that he is ready to provide support and assistance to UGM in implementing programs and activities in education and research in engineering, especially energy resources on earth science, engineering, oil and gas, and geothermal engineering.

"There are partnerships between universities and industry, particularly for the transfer of knowledge and experience," he added.

Meanwhile, the Rector, Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc.Sc, welcomed the cooperation. This is in line with the commitment of UGM as a producer of knowledge and qualified human resources and reference for the Advancement of the Nation.

"It would be very unfortunate if much of the research from campus is not disseminated and used by the community," Pratikno said.

According to Pratikno,  a study would be useful if there is synergy involving industry and university. Pratikno said UGM is committed to provide flexibility for industry to participate to build campus advancement.


"For example, in the short semester break, the industry can give lectures at several Faculties. Therefore, the interaction between students and the industry is getting closer," Pratikno added.

Prior to the signing of the MoU, President Director of PT.CPI gave a public lecture before the students of Faculty of Engineering. On the occasion, Batubara described opportunities and challenges of the future development of oil and gas industry, the technology transfer process and how UGM and PT. CPI could synergize.
