The ceremony continued on the second day, Thursday (Apr. 23), with 789 graduates.
In her welcoming remarks, the Rector, Professor Ova Emilia, congratulated the graduates who had successfully earned academic degrees at the Master’s, Specialist, Subspecialist, and Doctoral levels. She noted that these graduates contribute to UGM’s mandate to advance knowledge and develop outstanding talent capable of addressing national challenges. She also highlighted that this graduation period reflects the spirit of Kartini, with 861 female graduates (52.56%) and 777 male graduates (47.44%).
To produce high-quality graduates, UGM must continue improving its learning and research to remain competitive. She emphasized that these strengths must be recognized both nationally and globally to enhance UGM’s reputation toward becoming a Top 100 university worldwide.
“Currently, UGM is ranked 224th globally in the QS WUR 2026 rankings,” she stated at Grha Sabha Pramana on Wednesday (Apr. 22).

Several study programs at UGM have achieved global recognition in the QS WUR by Subject 2026 rankings. A total of 28 fields of study were included in the list, reflecting the contribution of postgraduate programs that focus on research, innovation, and publication. One notable achievement is in Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies, which ranked 45th globally.
“This achievement is inseparable from the role of collaboration networks as a tangible manifestation of our commitment to the tridharma values of being socially engaged, independent, and sustainable. Impactful knowledge must benefit society and strengthen national self-reliance,” she explained.
Representing the UGM Alumni Family (Kagama), the Chair of Kagama Pekanbaru-Riau Chapter, Professor Junaidi, stated that completing education marks the beginning of a significant journey in serving society, the nation, and humanity. According to Junaidi, the path ahead is a dynamic space where competition and compromise coexist, requiring wisdom.
Junaidi encouraged new graduates to actively engage in Kagama. He elaborated on the strength of Kagama, which upholds the values and principles of alumni networking based on harmony (guyub rukun) and usefulness (migunani).
“Let us make Kagama a social force that contributes solutions and becomes part of meaningful change in society,” he emphasized.
Representing the graduates, Stanley Evander Emeltan Tjoa from the Doctoral Program in Biology UGM, stated that the graduation ceremony serves as both an opportunity and recognition of academic achievements with tangible contributions to society. He acknowledged that the journey was not without challenges, including failed experiments, doubts in decision-making, and conflicting priorities.
As the fastest doctoral graduate, Stanley emphasized that the academic journey is never undertaken alone and extends beyond knowledge on paper. Graduation, he said, is not the end but a gateway to a broader world beyond the classroom.
“With the knowledge and experience gained at UGM, let us move forward with confidence, discipline, and humility to embrace future opportunities,” he advised.
