Freshly the hashtag of ‘Indonesia Terserah’ or Up to You Indonesia in English is circulated on social media. The words preface because of the circulation of the photographs of allied health workers wearing PPE holding of those written words on a piece of paper.
UGM Social Psychologist, Prof. Koentjoro, appraisal of the emergence of this hashtag as a form of affirmation of the allied health workers’ disappointment to the government and the community. The government apprehends not being serious in tackling the Covid-19 outbreak. Specified rules that are often changed and those that have not been agreed on clearly show people who break the rules. Meanwhile, the community is also considering as if they were acting not enabling the government to break the Covid-19 transmission chain.
“This is a form of luweh-luweh (it’s up to) the medical staff. They have done something well and are fighting in the front, but the community cannot support it,” he said on Friday (5/29).
Even so, Koentjoro ignored the hashtagged words of giving up. It does not mean that the allied health workers then gave up just like it is. The medical staff did not give up. They may not come out because they are ready with the profession’s oath to keep their duties and activate them well.
“This must be taken by the public to ask for more allied health workers,” explained the Professor in the Faculty of Psychology UGM.
He issued a challenge for the government on health issues, such as easing PSBB; on the contrary, it would matter opportunities to spread the coronavirus. Not to mention the problem of people who do not care about the difficulties of transmission of Covid-19. The most worrying things are, this will increasingly add to the health burden, while health facilities are limited.
The allied health workers profoundly hope that the community can apply discipline. Comply with health protocols against Covid-19 include diligently washing hands with soap, wearing masks, wearing activities outside the home, and implementing a clean and healthy lifestyle. Therefore, hopefully, it is able to prevent transmission of the coronavirus in the community.
“If people are still complaining, then when they deal with Covid-19, the hospital can no longer accommodate new patients. Yes, they have to be ready if they have to refuse hospitals because they have asked for permanent permits, so allied health workers hope that the community obeys the rules,” he explained.
In his view, the hashtag of ‘Indonesia Terserah’ or Up to You Indonesia echoed by health workers is a significant step to remind people not to ignore the government’s call. However, there is a need for further narration that explains the meaning of the hashtag.
“The choice of the Indonesian word is right. In certain groups, it can give a sting, but the problem with changes in society today is that not everyone can understand it,” Koentjoro explained.
Only people who have an instinctive sensitivity could understand the symbolic languages. Therefore, a more comprehensive explanation is needed to capture and understand the messages conveyed by these allied health workers. Instances, socialization is conducted by community leaders, religious leaders, and others.
