Universitas Gadjah Mada has reopened registration for the second batch of its International Undergraduate Program (IUP), which will remain open until April 28. A total of 1,221 prospective students will be admitted through this pathway, distributed across 31 study programs.
This international-class program is designed to provide an academic experience aligned with global standards, including instruction in English, student exchange opportunities, and international research collaborations. The IUP is one of UGM’s flagship programs and is fully aligned with international standards.
By fostering an internationally oriented environment, the program collaborates with global partners in teaching and learning, international exposure activities, and research.
The Head of the Environmental Geography Study Program, Andung Bayu Sekaranom, explained that the IUP at the Faculty of Geography, particularly in the Environmental Geography program, offers distinctive features compared to regular classes. The program offers a double-degree scheme in collaboration with universities in Taiwan. Students enrolled in the IUP can gain both academic and internship experience in Taiwan.
In addition, the program facilitates opportunities for students to pursue studies at universities in other countries, such as the Netherlands and South Korea.
“However, we also open possibilities for other countries where we can facilitate international exposure activities,” he said on Tuesday (Apr. 7).
Andung added that the IUP class in the Environmental Geography program has obtained international accreditation from ASIIN. With full English as the language of instruction, the program also involves foreign lecturers from partner universities.

“We hope our graduates will be able to pursue careers on the international stage,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Physics Study Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA UGM), Ahmad Kusumaatmaja, stated that the IUP in Physics offers a distinctive flagship program called the Special Intensive Program.
This program provides scholarships for students who aim to work in Taiwan. It is conducted in collaboration with universities in Taiwan that have established industry partnerships, ensuring career opportunities for participating students. The program follows a scheme of three years of study at UGM, one year at a university in Taiwan, one year of industry internship, and two years of employment commitment.
“Students will be guaranteed career opportunities in Taiwan’s industry,” he explained.
In addition to Taiwan, the Physics IUP at UGM also collaborates with global industries in countries such as Germany and Japan. The program also offers various facilities to support students’ international careers.
Ahmad explained that students are required to gain international exposure. To support this, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences provides a Foreign Language Center to prepare students for global mobility.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Biology Study Program, Luthfi Nurhidayat, explained that the IUP in Biology shares similarities with those in Physics and Environmental Geography, particularly in its extensive international collaborations.
Through double degree programs, the Biology IUP offers students opportunities to study in Australia and Europe. Partner universities include the University of Leeds, the Australian National University, Western Sydney University, and Dayeh University. Dayeh University also offers a one-year internship program and a two-year industry employment opportunity.
“Many UGM Biology students have studied there and even graduated from these international universities,” he said.
As with other IUP programs, the Biology IUP also facilitates student exchanges, summer courses, international publications, and international conferences.
