Startup Teknologi Perikanan Karya Mahasiswa UGM Raih Penghargaan

Banoo, as a fisheries technology startup designed by UGM alumni and students, became one of the champions of the Pancasila Achievement Appreciation Icon organized by the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) on August 29, 2020. BPIP nominated them in the science and innovation category for their innovations to increase productivity and fish farmers' welfare.

The Banoo team itself consisted of 5 UGM students and alumni, namely Lakshita Aliva Zein (Fisheries 2016) and Fajar Sidik Abdullah Kelana (Mechanical Engineering 2012), Azellia Alma Shafira (Management 2016), Muhammad Adlan Hawari (Electronics and Instrumentation 2015), and Fakhrudin Hary. Santoso (Fisheris Technology 2015) developed a microbubble generator equipped with IoT-based sensors to empower fish farmers in Indonesia.

Lakshita Aliva Zein said that they developed the innovative work in the form of microbubble generator technology to improve pool water quality with the support of the Internet-of-Things (IoT). It is called a sensor that functions to activate the microbubble generator automatically. "MBG technology can increase the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water so that fish growth will be better, the harvest period will be faster, and finally, it can increase the income of fish farmers," Lakshita said to reporters on Tuesday (15/9).

She said that the technology they have developed since 2018 hopefully is able to be a solution to the problems that exist in fish farmers regarding the availability of oxygen in the water. "We hope Banoo's innovation will positively impact Indonesian society and help the fisheries sector at a macro level," she explained.

Beforehand, this technology had been applied. Varia Mina Makmur also got the benefits of a farmer group from Pereng Dawe Hamlet and assisted by the CSR provider, namely PT. Pertamina (Persero). Besides, Banoo has also received various achievements, including winning the People's Choice Award at the 2019 Cisco Global Problem Solver Challenge and being a finalist in the global competition, namely the Thought For Food and MIT Sustainable Food System Challenge in 2020.
