UGM is ready to facilitate the lecturers who have just successfully completed their doctoral education. Even in its policy, UGM will facilitate the career development because the achievement of doctoral degree is not an end, but the means for further devotion and development. This was conveyed by Senior Vice Rector for Administration and Human Resources, Prof. Ainun Na'im, M.B.A., Ph.D. during a ceremony to welcome 106 new doctoral graduates of foreign and domestic universities at the Senate Hall on Thursday (6/5).

"There are a lot of challenges that we face, among others, for example, the low productivity of research in Indonesia and also the demands of academic quality, including learning and research. It's certainly a challenge for the new doctors," Ainun said.

Related to these challenges, things that should be addressed carefully are the problem of succession, promotion and job title. This becomes important not only for institutions, but the qualification (quality) can be better maintained. "Therefore, the university in the near future, God willing, in the next month will hold a workshop related to a variety of new rules. Because we know there is the Law on Teachers and Lecturers, Government Law related to certification and promotion, the calculation of credit, as well as some new developments related to national and international publications," he added.

Welcoming the new doctors, Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D. gave a high appreciation and congratulation for all their effort and struggle. With the annual addition of doctorates, that number is far greater now than in the past. "I still remember when I was once an assistant in the department, the students were about a thousand people but there was no lecturer who had a master degree, moreover with a doctorate degree. So this is really an honor for them," said Rector.

The Rector said currently the Civil Engineering Department has 57 lecturers, 45 doctorates and 22 professors. "This is an incredible progression. Now it’s the matter of how the title attached to us can truly be used as additional capital. Since we have chosen to work at UGM, therefore I am asking you to continue to develop and applied science for civilization, usefulness and happiness," he said.
