The university ranking organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released its QS Sustainability Ranking 2025.
This ranking is based on sustainability pillars: environmental impact, social impact, and governance. In the 2025 edition, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is ranked 383rd globally and 1st in Indonesia.
This marks an improvement from last year’s ranking of 476th globally and 4th in Indonesia.
Several other Indonesian universities were also included in the list of 1,743 universities worldwide. Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) ranked 440th globally, Universitas Indonesia (UI) ranked 492nd, Universitas Padjadjaran ranked 515th, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) ranked 524th, and Universitas Airlangga ranked 580th globally.
Professor Ova Emilia, the Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, expressed her delight at UGM’s achievement in sustainability. In 2023, UGM increased its focus on sustainability issues and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“UGM is committed to preserving the Earth by implementing sustainable goals,” said the rector on Tuesday (Dec. 10).
In the QS Sustainability Ranking 2025, UGM is ranked 383rd globally in the environmental impact indicator, with a score increase from 48.9 to 62.1.
This rise is primarily attributed to environmental sustainability indicators, education, and research improvements.
For the social impact indicator, UGM is ranked 581st globally, with a score increase from 62.1 to 65.4, particularly driven by indicators such as employability and opportunities, equality, and the impact of education.
In the governance indicator, UGM is ranked 131st globally, with a score of 91.5.
