Combating drug abuse is one of the important agendas that is currently the focus of government. Besides drugs, corruption and terrorism issues also become the main agenda to be addressed. During this time, education, especially university, is quite vulnerable to become targets and victims of drug abuse.
In prevention of drug distribution and drug abuse, the involvement optimization of the academic community is crucial. "We seek out and formulate prevention strategies of drug abuse on campus, especially at UGM," said Head of Drug Abuse Prevention Unit (UP2N) UGM’s Directorate of Student Affairs, Syarif Hidayatullah, M. Ag, M.A, on the sidelines of the Seminar on Optimizing Drugs Abuse Prevention Network on Campus Environment, on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Auditorium of Faculty of Agricultural Technology.
Syarif said that as mentioned by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in various occasions, the circulation of drugs until recently became a serious threat to the young generation as leaders in the future. Moreover, the circulation of these drugs work through networking system, which of course must be confronted with the same network, namely the involvement of all components of society and institutions. "Thus, the consolidation of each party in all agencies needs to be empowered as the motor of drug abuse prevention and drug distribution networks in Indonesia," he added.
The seminar was attended by 86 participants, consisting of UGM Vice-Dean of Student Affairs and UGM Vocational School (19 people), Academic and Student Affairs Head of Section (19 people) and students (38 people). Speakers who attended the event are Drs. Haryanto, M.Sc. (Director of Student Affairs), Derajad Sulistyo Widyharto, S. Sos., M.Si. (UGM Sociologist), Adjunct Senior Commissioner, Drs. Sugiyanto Nurjatno Putro, Apt. (Yogyakarta Head Section of Police Drug Investigation Directorate), and dr. Sunartono M. Kes. (Sleman District Secretary and Vice Chairman of BNK Sleman.
