YOGYAKARTA- To improve academic quality internationally, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences UGM continue to establish collaborations with several world leading universities, including with School of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Liverpool, U.K., recently in its bid to earn an international accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeon (RCVS).

According to Dean of the Faculty, Dr. drh. Joko Prastowo, M.Si., the School of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Liverpool, was elected partner in earning the international accreditation. “The University of Liverpool is ready to become UGM partner in granting the accreditation,” said Joko to reporters on Thursday (22/10).

Joko said in his visit to School of Veterinary Sciences in Liverpool from 20-24 September, he was accompanied by Head of Graduate Veterinary Sciences study programme, Dr. drh. R. Wisnu Nurcahyo, and they were received by the Dean, Prof. Susan Dawson.

To the Dean, Joko explained accreditation process that had been undertaken while also opening opportunities for collaboration in education, research, and community empowerment. Susan Dawson said the UGM Faculty needs o go through rigorous standards in academic, research, management, human resource and assets. “For that matter, the University of Liverpool is ready to guide,” Joko quoted Dawson as saying.

Dawson explained the University of Liverpool has the well-known National Center for Zoonotic Research (NCZR) UK. Related to joint research and publication in zoonosis, said Joko, the University of Liverpool is interested particularly in wild animals research, such as orang utan, elephant, bird, and reptile. “Liverpool students and lecturers are interested in Indonesian tropical fauna as many are critically endangered,” he said.

Joko added the University of Liverpool would be ready to receive UGM staff that plan to undertake doctoral studies, guest lecture, or faculty exchange for research and training with animal teaching hospital facilities.
